The Seed Pod

Orientation, Belonging & Agency for Teens

We help teens make sense of
the world and their place in it.

We live in an extraordinary universe, at an extraordinary moment in history. As the pace of change accelerates, young people need the wisdom to find their bearings and contribute meaningfully to a world in flux.

Our children need a new kind of guidance

Never before have young people had access to so much information,  so many ways to connect, and so many opportunities. Yet many feel more disoriented, disconnected, and disempowered than ever before. We believe these challenges are best addressed by helping young people develop three essential capacities.

Orientation

What kind of world do I find myself in?
To navigate life wisely, we need a reliable map. Orientation is about developing a meaningful picture of reality—not just so the world makes sense, but so it becomes an enduring source of curiosity, appreciation, and wonder.

Belonging

How do I fit into this larger story?
Once we understand the world around us, another question naturally follows: What is my place within it? Belonging is about discovering how our own lives, relationships, values, and gifts are part of something bigger than ourselves.

Agency

How can I make a meaningful contribution?
When we can make sense of the world and our place within it, we are better prepared to act. Agency is the capacity to turn understanding into thoughtful, creative, and meaningful action.

How it Works

The Seed Pod is an online ecosystem of learning and belonging that complements any education—public, private, or nontraditional. In our classes, students encounter what schooling often lacks: deep questions, meaningful connection, and space to discover who they really are.

Students ages 12–20, including both homeschool students and students attending traditional schools.
Most students meet one-on-one, allowing every course to be tailored to their particular interests, pace, and goals.
Small-group classes for two or three students are also available.
We offer online classes for students worldwide, and in-person classes in the Asheville, North Carolina area.
Every course is tailored to your child’s unique needs. Classes typically meet 1-3 times per week for one semester.
Every student can choose between 60 and 90 minute classes.

What Students and Parents Are Saying

How the Seed Pod Helps Students Grow

Wisdom Over Information

We focus on developing deeply human capacities: compassion, self-awareness, and the ability to see how our choices ripple across nested systems—from self to family to planet.

Inspiring Mentorship

Students are accompanied by steady, caring adults who see them, track their growth, and celebrate their gifts.

Deep Self-Discovery

We never hand students ready-made answers or push them towards particular conclusions. Instead, we create space for them to explore different beliefs and forge their own truths.

Real Conversations

One-on-one and small-group sessions make room for every student to be heard, valued, and challenged by meaningful conversation.

Meet Ari.

For more than twenty years, I’ve worked with young people as an educator, mentor, and guide. The Seed Pod grew from a simple conviction: adolescence isn’t only about acquiring knowledge. It’s also a time for building a deep understanding of the world, discovering where we belong within it, and learning how to contribute to it.
After graduating from Amherst College, I spent two decades teaching mathematics and science while pursuing a lifelong search for a richer understanding of the universe and humanity’s place within it. That journey eventually led me to earn a PhD in philosophy and cosmology at the California Institute of Integral Studies under the mentorship of Brian Swimme.
Today, I bring those two paths together. Every Seed Pod course is designed to help young people develop the understanding, confidence, and sense of purpose they need to navigate an uncertain world with curiosity, wisdom, and agency.

Is the Seed Pod right for your child?

Every young person is different. I’d be delighted to learn about your child, answer your questions, and help you decide whether Seed Pod is the right fit for your family.

Why The Seed Pod?

For billions of years, plants have relied on seed pods to carry what matters most into the future—protecting fragile beginnings until the time is right for them to take root. At The Seed Pod, our mission is to do the same: not with grains or beans, but with seeds of wisdom, wonder, and resilience.

We hope you’ll join us in passing these seeds forward, so that our children can flourish in a vibrant world.
